Treatment and log line

 Log Line
A young, innocent 7 year old girl, living at home with just her mother, becomes the centre of attention to a stalker. The stalker becomes more and more obsessed with the girl until he decides to kidnap. Its thoughts become more twisted as he keeps diaries of her routines in the guest to capture her.

Treatment
A young girl, vulnerable and naïve, brainwashed by the mind of psychopathic stalker. He watches her over  a period of time, following her routes home and keeping track of her destinations. Unknowingly the innocent child lives her daily life with just her mother whilst the stalker shows interest. Little do they know their lives were about to change when the stalker becomes overly obsessive over the little girl and plans to kidnap her.
His twisted disturbed life becomes surrounded by thoughts, movements and images of the girl. As he keeps photographs and diaries of her routines, craving her presence and becoming determined to capture her as his possession.
All begins to become more intense as the mother grows suspicious of the stalking that is becoming present to her and her daughter as they play in the park and take walks to school. This causes a change in action which speeds up his plot to take the young girl.

Conversation is made between the mother and the stalker when his curiosity about the young girl becomes unbearable. He makes himself innocent as he shows clear attraction to the mother when asking if they have seen his dog. He uses this as a cover up to decrease all suspicion. Although follows through the conversation asking questions about the young girl, comparing her to his 'niece' to disguise any further suspicion. The answers he got from the mother fills the stalking in on her hobbies and interests, which he dwells on as they give him ideas of ways to lure her in.

Thriller time line

This is my timeline which I made by noting down the second of each time a title is shown on screen, and what the name of the title is. To do this I used a thriller movie as it gave me more of an idea of the positioning and length of the titles used in thriller films, so I'm able to carry this out in my own opening title sequence. It also gave me a feel of what is shown in a opening title sequence and how regular titles are.

Skype Call with Mike Harrowes

Discussed Skype call being organised with BAFTA nominated editor Mike Harrowes who is currently  editing a Horror Drama for British TV. The questions we will ask him will be :
  • How does the pace of editing effect the mood portrayed in the film and witch areas does it affect the viewer the most?
  • How is tension built in a thriller film, is there a particular edit?
  • How long did it take you to complete your opening sequence?
  • What did you find easy to edit and what did you struggled with?
  • Have you changed any ideas in the process of making the film or stick to the one plan?
This is the Skype call which we had with Mike Harrowes in class.

Equipment

Before filming our opening sequence me and Kelly had a group discussion and thought about the equipment that we would need in order to successfully film our footage. Here is our list:

  1. Tripod - We would need a tripod to set our camera up on so that the footage is focused and clear, a tripod levels up the camera and keeps it still including leavers which we can use to pan and move direction of the camera without it being hand held.
  2. SD card - We will place an SD card inside of the camera, the footage will save to this card so can all be together and also so it can easily be exported on to the computer for further adjustments.
  3. Different size lenses - Different size lenses will need to be used so we can get different shots of the girl using the right camera lenses which we can easily focus when filming.
  4. DSR 700 Camera - This is the type of camera we will use to film our opening sequence.
  5. Battery - A battery will be put into the camera to give it power to work, we must make sure our battery is fully charged before putting it into the camera.
  6. Laster light/Reflector - We decided we would film close ups of our character outside, so we will use a reflector to place under her face so her features are highlighted, making her eyes stand out and her face clear.

Group meeting on opening sequence

This is a picture taken of me and my group having a discussion about our log line and treatment for our opening sequence. Contributing ideas and thoughts, during this we also considered including narrative and enigma and using the 180 degree rule. This concluded us to decide on the environment we will be filming in and the characters and props that will be needed. Unfortunately Owen who is in this image left the group so is no longer a part of our opening sequence.

Costume and Make-up

This is a list of the costume and make-up that Kelly Simpson and I made, which we will be using in our opening sequence.
  • Old grubby wrinkle hands - Keeping in mind the idea of our opening sequence of a stalker, we wanted old grubby hands which portrayed eeriness and a mysterious feel. The dirty hands also connote that he isn't clean and has been up to no good relating to his dirty mind.
  • Rolled up sleeves - We decided that we wanted our character to have roll up the sleeves on his shirt to present that he wasn't formal and was getting stuck in, deep in thoughts of the kidnap planning.
  • Desaturated drawn face ( Powered pale grey colour)
  •  Wellie boots on small children's feet

Prop List

This is a prop list for our filming of our opening sequence.
  • Pen
  • Paper
  • Table
  • Candle
  • Match sticks
  • Box for images
  • Photographs of the girl
  • Record
